Hirudotherapy and Women's Health

Hirudotherapy is the ancient method of treatment using medicinal leeches and is a variation of traditional medicine.

The leech has been officially registered in the pharmacopeia as an anticoagulant since the main action of leech saliva is blood thinning. In reality, leech saliva contains not only hirudin (a substance that slows blood clotting) but also a large number of other biologically active substances that, when introduced into the human body, exhibit healing properties and initiate metabolic processes. This is why hirudotherapy is used in the treatment of various organ systems in the body, as well as for improving overall health and rejuvenation.

The uniqueness of the method lies in the fact that the leech, as a true natural acupuncturist, punctures the skin only at biologically active acupuncture points. With an anesthetic enzyme in its saliva, the leech immediately numbs the site of its bite, making hirudotherapy a painless and safe procedure.

Such bloodletting activates the body's healing processes, cleanses the bloodstream, oxygenates it, and eliminates stagnant blood. The introduction of leech saliva into the bloodstream alleviates pain, swelling, and inflammation, helping to treat a range of diseases, with the active substance continuing to work in the body for several months."

Hirudotherapy in Gynecology

Hirudotherapy is extremely beneficial for the female body, and it has found wide application in gynecology, helping to address numerous 'female' conditions. The method is used both independently and in combination with other treatment methods. Often, leech therapy allows patients to avoid hormonal therapy and helps normalize hormonal balance in conditions like endometriosis and uterine fibroids without the use of hormone-containing drugs. Hirudotherapy has anti-inflammatory, fibrinolytic, anti-edematous, and immunomodulatory effects.

Although hirudotherapy has already proven to be an effective treatment method, patients often have doubts due to the specific nature of the procedure. In reality, there is absolutely nothing to fear about hirudotherapy, and when making a decision, it's essential to keep the following in mind:

1. The leech bite is practically not felt since the leech numbs the bite area.

2. After the leech has fed on blood, it detaches itself. Leeches cannot remain inside.

3. Leeches are not contagious. Only disposable medical leeches grown on special biofarms are used for the procedure, and they cannot transmit infections.

4. Throughout the entire hirudotherapy session, a hirudotherapist is present, fully controlling the process.

It's also worth noting that compared to many other medical methods, hirudotherapy is considered one of the most comfortable procedures to undergo.
